Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about our lawn-care services. Cannot see your question? Just ask.
How do I get a quote?
Use the quote form on the Contact page, or call, WhatsApp or email us. Tell us your postcode, the service you are interested in and your lawn's length and width in metres, and we will come back to you.
How much does it cost?
Prices depend on the size and requirements of each job. Every lawn is different, so quotes are tailored to the work required.
Do I need to be home for my lawn cut?
No. You do not need to be home during your scheduled lawn cut. Simply ensure safe access to your garden.
Do you offer one-off visits as well as regular cuts?
Yes. We offer regular lawn cutting and one-off visits. See Lawn Cutting & Fertiliser.
How often should my lawn be cut?
Regular cutting keeps grass dense and tidy. Our yearly programme includes weekly cuts throughout the main growing season. The right frequency depends on your lawn, so ask us if you are unsure.
What is scarifying and does my lawn need it?
Scarifying removes the build-up of thatch and dead organic material so air, water and nutrients can reach the soil. Signs it may help include a spongy feel underfoot, water running off rather than soaking in, and moss and dead material building up. Read more about scarifying.
When should I overseed my lawn?
Overseeding thickens existing lawns and repairs thin or damaged areas. It works best when the lawn has been prepared first, for example by scarifying. The best timing depends on your lawn and the time of year, so get in touch for advice. Read more about overseeding.
Can I walk on my lawn after it has been seeded?
New seedlings are delicate, so it is sensible to keep foot traffic off newly seeded areas while they establish. We will advise on your lawn when the work is done.
How do you deal with moss and weeds?
We provide moss removal and weed control in lawns, weed removal from plant beds, and moss and weed removal from pathways and driveways. See moss and weed removal.
What does the yearly lawn-care programme include?
Weekly lawn cuts throughout the main growing season, a summertime mini-renovation, light scarification, overseeding, fertiliser applications, appropriate lawn treatments and sprays, and pest and disease monitoring and management. See the full programme.
My lawn has patches or discolouration. Is it a pest or disease?
We cannot diagnose a lawn from a distance, but we can identify common lawn pests and diseases, explain the cause and advise on treatment and recovery. Send an enquiry from the Contact page, choose Advice, and describe what you can see. Read more.
Can irrigation be controlled from my phone?
Yes. Our automatic irrigation systems for lawns and plant beds can be controlled remotely from a mobile phone, wherever you are. See automatic irrigation.
Do you look after artificial grass?
Yes. We brush artificial grass to lift flattened fibres and restore a fresher, more upright finish. See artificial grass brushing.
Do you advise on sports pitches and high-performance lawns?
Yes. We offer advice on sports pitches and domestic high-performance lawns, including maintenance, presentation and turf performance. See the consultancy service.
Can I ask for advice without booking any work?
Yes. The quote form lets you choose whether you want a quote for work or advice.
Where are you based?
Swardline Turf Management is based in IG9. Send your postcode through the quote form and we will let you know whether we can help.
